  • 16 years of professional baseball from 1996 to 2011 as a left handed pitcher.
  • Played as both starting pitcher and reliever.
  • Participated in 8 major league Spring trainings.
  • Played in Japan (NPB), Korea (KBO), and Taiwan (CPBL).
  • Has played in Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, and the USA.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Signed as an 18-year-old un-drafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1995.
  • Selected in the Major League portion of the Rule V Draft in 1999 by the Cincinnati Reds, eventually being returned to the Dodgers in March 2000.
  • Placed on the Dodgers 40 man roster at the end of the 2000 season.
  • Traded by the Dodgers to the Pirates for Terry Mulholland July 2001.
  • Traded by the Pirates to the Tigers for Randall Simon November 2002.
  • Designated for Assignment by the Tigers in January 2004, resigned a AAA contract with the Tigers for the 2004 season.
  • Granted free agency October 2004.

Bobby Mitchell, Coach

Primary Age Group: 13u – 14u

Coach Bobby Mitchell played in the Major Leagues from 1980 to 1983 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins. After his 10 year playing career finished Coach Bobby turned to coaching at the minor league level from 1992 to 2005 for the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and Anaheim Angels. Coach Bobby was also a roving outfield and baserunning instructor for the Boston Red Sox.

In 2006, Coach Bobby became the manager of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the Angels farm system, and in 2008 he was promoted to manage the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. In 2015, he was named roving minor league outfield and baserunning coach for the Atlanta Braves. In 2016 Bobby joined the New York Yankees’ system as manager of the Double-A Trenton Thunder, and was rehired for 2017 after leading his 2016 club to 87 wins and the Eastern League playoffs. On January 31, 2018, Bobby Mitchell was named the manager of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. In nine years as a minor league manager, Coach Bobby Mitchell has compiled a 517-460 (.529) win-loss record.

Coach Bobby has coached and managed many notable players currently in the Major Leagues such as Aaron Judge and Mike Trout. He also managed the Cubs rookie ball team for 2 years which included Javier Baez, Wilson Contreras among others.

Paul Woolsey, Coach

Primary Age Group: 11u – 12u

 Paul Woolsey has been a coach with the VBA Taipans since day one. Having coached alongside Adrian Burnside at Classical Academy High School for 3 seasons at the varsity level, he played a critical role in leading the Caimans to their first CIF championship and league banner.

Coach Paul brings a significant amount of travel and high school baseball coaching knowledge and experience to the program. Paul is extremely attentive to the detail and nuance in games and because of this, his teams are extremely competitive and perform well in tournaments.

Jake Stinnett, Coach

Coach Jake was born and raised in Vista, having attended Rancho Buena Vista High School. He earned a scholarship to University of Maryland to play third baseman and played for 4 years, graduating with a degree in Economics. He was drafted in the 2nd round, 45th overall by the Chicago Cubs, in 2014 as a right-handed starting pitcher. Jake played from 2014-2020 in the Cubs farm system and is a current minor league free agent.

Raul Gonzalez, Coach

Coach Raúl was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and now resides in Carlsbad.

Drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 17th round of the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft, Coach González made his major league debut for the Chicago Cubs on May 25, 2000. Coach Raúl spent 5 years at the big-league level also playing for the Cincinnati Reds, NY Mets and the Cleveland Indians.

Coach Raúl played professional baseball for a total of 20 years (1991-2010). Following the arrest of Major League Baseball player, Miguel Cabrera, on February 15, 2010, Coach González was chosen as Cabrera’s “companion” in order to help the slugger abstain from alcohol and other such activities detrimental to his baseball career.

Coach Raúl has spent the last 5 years coaching at the minor league level with the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and is currently the hitting coach in Arizona for the San Diego Padres rookie league players.
